[ARRL-ODV:9520] Another use for TrustedQSL digital certificates

During the development of the Logbook of the World system, we wondered what other uses hams would make of the TrustedQSL digital certificates. The first non-LoTW use of the TrustedQSL digital certificates has surfaced already -- authentication of new EchoLink users. Jonathan Taylor, K1RFD, has developed some software to allow TrustedQSL users to use their digital certificates to authenticate themselves to EchoLink, rather than send copies of their FCC licenses in the mail. (This does not require use of any ARRL resources beyond the TQSL software and certificates needed to sign logs for LoTW submissions.) The attached press release announces the new EchoLink program and is quite complimentary of ARRL and Logbook. On another front, several of the logging software providers have gotten serious about incorporating Logbook submission features in their software now that the system is in operation. The tools to help them with that already exist and are on the Logbook developer's Web site. (This thought ended mid-sentence in the In News sent today.) 73, Mark K1RO
