[arrl-odv:13658] Re: LOBBYING ACCORDING TO CQ

Jim and everyone, Well, we did get there first. ARRL has been doing lobbying on behalf of amateur radio for years!! One article an effective lobbying campaign does NOT make! They may have some good info in the article that we can benefit from...don't know as I have not yet read it. In any event, we are on the right track! Thanks for everyone's support to move forward. 73 Joel W5ZN -----Original Message----- From: Jim Weaver, K8JE [mailto:k8je@arrl.org] Sent: Monday, January 30, 2006 10:27 PM To: arrl-odv Subject: [arrl-odv:13656] Re: LOBBYING ACCORDING TO CQ Hi, Joel, The authors are Tom Coates, N3IJ and Joseph T. Krywsztoforsk, AJ3X. Bill Edgar said they are from a Maryland (Baltimore if I recall correctly) club that has several League bashers as members. I zipped through the web, and found one or more Tom Coates. Couldn't determine if any was the author. No hit on Krysztoforsk. The article really aims at the state legislature level. It shows me, though, that we lost a huge opportunity to "get there first" when we didn't act fast enough with our program. I'll do my damnedest not to let this continue. FYI, I have just scheduled a telecon of the Grassroots committee set for Thursday, 2/9 at 10 PM Eastern Time. It is planned just for the five committee members, but if you'd like to drop in to say a word or two, feel free. Obviously, you can stick around and participate in the discussion if you wish. I have not extended the invitation beyond the Committee and you, because I do not feel we need input from others at this time and because I'm concerned that having too many people involved could distract us from our goal. The purpose of the call is to hash over the approach and interview outline we will use with our fellow Directors that Jim Fenstermaker is drafting. I plan for this to be a fully-working discussion among the five of us. My hope is that within a week after the telecon, we can begin to interview Directors to get input from them on the issues that have hindered full implementation of the program in all divisions. I'm pleased with our progress to this moment. I'm equally thrilled with the enthusiasm of each of the committee members. Tnx, 73, enjoy, Jim Please let me know Jim Weaver, K8JE, Director 5065 Bethany Rd., Mason, OH 45040 E-mail: k8je@arrl.org; Tel: 513-459-0142 ARRL Great Lakes Division ARRL, the Reason Amateur Radio is!
