[ARRL-ODV:9453] Re: Larry King Live

For those who wonder, the "brother who is a ham" is WABC-TV assignment editor Howard Price, KA2QPJ. His brother Dave is a weatherman at WCBS-TV in New York. -73- Steve, W2ML Steve Mendelsohn, W2ML ARRL Hudson Division Vice Director w2ml@arrl.org -----Original Message----- From: Joel Harrison [mailto:w5zn@arrl.org] Sent: Friday, September 19, 2003 6:14 AM To: arrl-odv Subject: [ARRL-ODV:9446] Larry King Live For those who don't watch Larry King Live, last night the topic was, naturally, Hurricane Isabel. King had one of his "panels" assembled consisting of a guy from the weather channel, the weather man from CBS Good Morning, and Wolf Blitzer. Can't even go to the restroom at CNN these days without Wolf. Anyway, one caller from Denver asked "Are ham radio operators involved in anyway with hurricane assistance and if so, what?" Wolf's response was complimentary, but he ended by saying we use old technology. The shining part was comments by Dave Price, who is the weatherman for CBS Good Morning. Dave said his brother was a ham and involved in the emergency networks in the New York City area. He not only told (very accurately) what hams do in disasters such as a hurricane, but went on to expand the work of radio amateurs in the 911 disaster and other things as well. He ended by saying you may view it as "old technology", but it works when nothing else does!! Nice, short spot, except for that idiot Wolf. Too bad one of those big gusts of wind didn't 't come up and blow harder than he was. 73 Joel W5ZN
