[arrl-odv:28432] Re: Centenarian hams

I considered taking Amtrak from NYC but the problem is getting to NYC and finding a place to park and keep my car. In the end it was just easier to drive up. I can fly to BDL to the tune of $4000. From MMU airport which is almost walking distance from work. Yeah, no. Ria N2RJ On Mon, 22 Jul 2019 at 21:34, k6jat <k6jat@comcast.net> wrote:

Home at 1 am West coast time. Including a ,,, wait for it,,, 2 1/2 hour delay at BDL, only to sit on the taxiway for another 40 minutes while we ran the engines at 75% throttle to burn off fuel because they put too much in, and we were overweight.... Sea-Tac had no available gates when we finally got to Seattle, and they sent a bus to the end of the runway and took us about 2 miles in and out of moving jets ( ??? ) to the terminal. I thought I was the only one but the closer to home, the more folks I found delayed.
One really cool thing was while waiting at Sea-Tac, a guy asked about my shirt, ( ARRL polo) so I told him what it was, and where I had been. He has 2 neighbors who have towers in his home town, and was going to talk to them about Ham Radio. He was very interested in leaning more. Made the 12 hours in the air and in terminals prior to the conversation worth it.
Glad everyone is finally home and Rick, you need to get a ride in that sled of Ria's, that is a very cool car. The darn thing even backs it's self out of a parking stall.

Glad you made it. You know we missed a huge e-skip opening on 2 meters....

My “flight” was smooth. No cops, no tickets. Straight shot down I-84.
Anyone flying out tonight from New York area airports, you have my deepest sympathies. We had pelting rain like I haven’t seen in a while. Lightning too. Pretty sure LGA, EWR and JFK will be delayed for a while.

It took me about the same (15.5 hours), but I had more distance to travel. Sorry about jinxing your flight :).
Greg, did you make it home to Huntsville?

Fred, I'm glad you raised this as I was going to but I'm just now getting to emails today. BTW, it took Holly and me 16 hours to get home. It was one of those trips that goes into the Board meeting travel chapters. And we are still looking for our luggage. (hi)

Parking a car like that in NYC is a gamble, and sometimes not a good one. My brother had his GTO stolen from the FBI impound garage in Manhattan. They recovered it two or three days later in a NJ shop fixing to be loaded up and hauled to Nevada. 73 David A. Norris, K5UZ Director, Delta Division Sent from my iPhone
