[arrl-odv:13527] Web Site Live Tracking All U.S. Aircraft

15 JAN 2006 - 1600 CST If you have nothing to do, or you are curious, you might want to try out this free web site a ham friend of mine sent to me. The site gives flight tracking information for any non-military aircraft on a flight plan. It appears to be a data feed from the FAA superimposed on a color map that's updated every five minutes. Just type in the aircraft type for General Aviation flights, or the Airline Flight Number & your spouse can tell when to pick you up, or when to put the supper on, or if you got off on time, when you are expected to arrive, etc. Go to the web site: <http://flightaware.com/live/>http://flightaware.com/live/ The first picture you see is the airborne tracking of all non-military aircraft in the northern half of the western hemisphere along with some aggregate statistics. Under the box: "TRACK COMMERCIAL FLIGHT", there is a box called: "TYPE". In this box, type in the type of the plane you are checking on such as PA30 for the Twin Comanche, PA24 for the single engine Comanche, B55 for the Twin Baron, etc. You will see all the aircraft of the specified type that are airborne. Click VIEW. You can track a specific aircraft by typing in the registration (N) number or in the case of an airline the airline flight number (AA86 for American flight 86) in the appropriate box. - Dick, W9GIG
