[arrl-odv:29816] Field Day and Coronavirus

Good afternoon: I guess it's not surprising that we've already received a couple of questions regarding ARRL Field Day and the coronavirus. As such, I worked with David Isgur to come up with a statement, which was vetted by the EC, that we can use. The statement is attached. This is the position the ARRL is taking at the moment relative to Field Day. What I didn't want, is for everyone out there to be waiting for the ARRL to issue a statement which would seemingly direct them regarding their participation or non-participation in Field Day. In my opinion, that's a recipe for disaster and, as a former risk manager, it's not our place to make that assessment for everyone across the country. Field Day is, at its essence, a local event and I strongly believe those decisions should be made locally. You will see that in the language of the statement. Also, we are not looking to issue this as some sort of press release for now. We are just going to use it as a response in situations where we've been asked. I would strongly suggest you do the same. Diane and I are in conversations regarding our position on staff travel, both international and domestic. It is way too early to take make any affirmative statements about participation at conventions or hamfests but we will be monitoring the situation going forward. This is just letting you know it's on our radar and that we should all be thinking about it. 73, Barry, N1VXY
