[ARRL-ODV:7565] Re: N1MZA - SK

This is indeed sad, but, unfortunately, expected news. I always enjoyed talking with Steve. He was a true asset for the ARRL and amateur radio in DC. I remember well our last conversation during lunch one day at the last January Board meeting. His illness was a concern, but I was impressed by his optimism and courage as he faced it boldly and head on. I am fortunate to have known him. I will miss him, but never forget him. It is with deep sadness that I report to you that Steve Mansfield, N1MZA became a silent key at 4:00 P. M. today. Ellen his wife was with him at the time.
I shall remember his wit, and enthusiasm when we worked together in Washington. He was a true D. C. "Junkie" as he liked to say. He always liked to point out to me, the various "people that are in Washington" and tell me a little about each. One night in particular, Allen Greenspan came in to the restaurant and sat at the table next to ours. You could clearly see that Steve was excited and that he loved his job.
We shall miss him.
