[arrl-odv:26011] N1BCG-GB2ZE: TransAtlantic Commemoration

Ladies & Gentlemen: Some good news. Our Sunday commemoration of the first transatlantic short wave signals produced more than 500 contacts with special event station N1BCG in Greenwich CT. We have not yet heard tallies from GB2ZE. Contact was made at 10:31 AM (1531Z) on Sunday morning. N1BCG sent the original message from Armstrong and Minton to Scotland, sent on the same date, 12/11/1921. The first transmission of the message by voice on 20-meter sideband; the second by CW on the same band. The BBC gave extensive coverage to the event on national BBC radio throughout the weekend. The website story can be found at: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-38262397 . The event, conceived and sponsored by ARRL, was co-sponsored by Radio Club of America, Radio Society of Great Britain and DX Engineering. The grandson of Paul Godley, 2ZE whom ARRL had dispatched to Androssan, Scotland for the tests beginning in the summer of 1921, was on hand in Greenwich CT to witness the Sunday morning activity. He brought with him Godley's original logs from the experiment and hundreds of photos and documents relating to his grandfather's work. Bruce Godley Littlefield, Paul Godley's oldest grandson has sent archived scans of all the material for ARRL's historical archives.
