[arrl-odv:15912] Technical Excellence ward

The rules for the Doug DeMaw, W1FB Technical Excellence Award are as follows (per the Director's Workbook): ARRL Doug DeMaw, W1FB Technical Excellence Award The ARRL Technical Excellence Award was established in 1975 to honor the author whose article (or series of articles) published in ARRL periodicals for that year is judged to have the highest degree of technical merit. The award is made annually. In honor of the late Doug DeMaw, W1FB, the name of the award was changed to the Doug DeMaw, W1FB Technical Excellence Award in 1997. For articles with more than one author, each is presented with an engraved cup. All winners except those for 1981 lived in the U.S., and each of those awards was presented through Division Directors. The 1981 award presentations were made through sister societies of the ARRL. After the close of a calendar year, the process for determining the winner for that year begins. As established by the Board, the judging is done by a panel of Technical Advisor appointees, with liaison through the Technical Department at Hq. The recommendation of the judging panel is made to the Volunteer Resources Committee, which reviews the recommendation and forwards it to the Board at the second meeting of the Board in the year following the date of the award, after which the award is engraved. The award itself is a 9-inch pewter loving cup and base (the 1983 award was a bowl rather an a cup). The engraving identifies the award and includes the ARRL diamond logo, year, and the author's name and call. The recommendation was made to the Programs and Services Committee (successor to the Volunteer Resources Committee), but PSC did not take up the matter until after the Board meeting. PSC concurred in the recommendation that the award be made to Rick Campbell, KK7B, for his article "The MicroT2 - A Compact Single-Band SSB Transmitter" that appeared in the December 2006 issue of QST. The Executive Committee has unanimously voted in favor of the following: Moved, that the Executive Committee on behalf of the Board accepts the recommendation of the Programs and Services Committee to award the ARRL Doug DeMaw, W1FB Technical Excellence Award to Rick Campbell, KK7B for his article "The MicroT2 - A Compact Single-Band SSB Transmitter" that appeared in the December 2006 issue of QST. Accordingly, we will add Rick to the list in October QST of award wnners from the July Board Meeting. Thanks to the PSC and EC for their prompt action. 73, David Sumner, K1ZZ Secretary, ARRL
