[arrl-odv:30353] July Board Meeting

Hi all: Barry and I have beenfollowing the developments daily about COVID-19 and the impact on holding anin-person July Board meeting. Today we learned that although hotels will be allowed to open for overnight guests in lateJune, they won’t be allowed to host meetings and events until July 20th at theearliest. This means we will not be able to hold an in-person meeting inHartford. This is unfortunate as you may recall that our plans were to blockoff the entire third week in July to conduct CEO interviews before the Boardmeeting and now those will need to be delayed until we can meet in person. I’vetalked to a good number of Directors the past several weeks during and aftervarious online meetings, i.e. CEOSC, EmComm, and have used the opportunity toask for input about what we should do. There seems to be support to have abrief virtual meeting in July on the date proscribed in the By Laws, which ispermissible per Ed Spinella, CT counsel, and take care of only items that mustbe addressed, and then adjourn to a date specific time in the future in hopesthat we can have our in-person meeting a few weeks later, i.e. early September. That’sthe plan for now. 73, Rick –K5UR

Since I have not had anyone throw rotten tomatoes at me in the past few weeks, virtual or otherwise, I would like to make a proposal for consideration. I agree that the concerns are that travel and opening in the NE may be too soon for a face to face July meeting and suspect the proposal to move the date is a well considered one. With that in mind, I would like to formally suggest that we use the opportunity of the Huntsville Hamfest in August as an alternative date and location. There are several reasons I considered this. 1. It moves the meeting out of the NE part of the country, an area considered the largest hotbed of virus activity and an area desperately trying NOT to reopen before the fall. 2. It would ease some of the travel concerns I have heard from many board members myself. 3. It would move it to State that is already opening so likelihood of getting accommodations /meeting space would be good (and maybe even cheaper) 4. But reason I like most is that we can hold the extended board meeting earlier in the week and, since we did not have a Dayton this year, we can do an all hands on deck showing at the Hamfest and fly the flag some. Why Huntsville? The timing would work being in mid-August. The location is in a relatively "quiet" part of the country relating to virus concerns. It is a nice size Hamfest that gets a lot of attention and turn out, and there are a lot of fun things to do there or within short distance of Huntsville. I will duck now...………. Lee Lee H. I don't think this is a sound plan at all. Alabama is actually growing in cases, and we simply do not know what a 2nd wave will bring. No, it's not a hoax (I had to say it). NY and NJ have seen a steep downward trend as well. We are actually reopening in phases, with school graduations being allowed. Unless the date is like in October, I don't see it happening. Especially if one has to deal with air travel. The airlines claim they are distancing people but I've seen that not to be the case on more than one occasion. https://dfw.cbslocal.com/2020/05/06/air-travel-down-why-are-planes-still-cro... I agree with Ria. Based on everything I’ve read or viewed the past few days, looking at August and September for an in-person Board meeting signifies a level of optimism that I don’t share. The only case I can make for those months would be the possibility of open-air meetings.
