I want to drop you all a short note to say that all is going well here in Tokyo. All the meetings begin today. I am told that the attendance at each of the ceremonies will have about 400. I was surprised to hear that many people will be here. Mike JA1AYC who is showing us around said that just about all the representative from R-3 will be here. I had a private dinner last night with Shozo Hara, JA1AN who is the president of the JARL. He showed me some membership numbers that has him a little worried. At the moment there are only 90,000 members in the JARL. They have a little different system here in that there is an operators license and then a station license. The operators licenses are OK, but the number of station licenses are dropping drastically. I am going to discuss this with Mike today. We (Mike and I) are going to visit some of the amateur radio stores today and visit with some of the local hams. 73 Jim Haynie, W5JBP/JA1
