The annual report is still with the Graphics department, but should be ready for review very soon. The marketing team completed a handful of items supporting ARRL's big exhibit for Dayton Hamvention, www.arrl.org/expo. All systems are go! A Dayton-themed emailing was sent to 70,000+ ARRL members (past known-attendees and pulled regionally) promoting membership renewals at Dayton and new publications. A promotion featuring the fourth edition of ARRL's Low Power Communication is being prepared. It will be mailed to 2,500 previous edition purchasers. The flyer will also promote the optional 40-meter MFJ Cub CW transceiver kit. Now Shipping: The ARRL DXCC List April 2012 Edition. We're pleased to welcome Michael Scharr to the ARRL staff, as a new warehouse clerk. Several membership projects have been submitted to production: buckslips, artwork for e-mailings, membership application, poster and a postcard. An ARRL Field Day themed e-mailing returned a handful of membership applications. Next-up is a Memorial Day e-mailing, in planning. Specifications and artwork have been released to Nxtbook to begin preparing for a QST app within the Apple marketplace. The QST app will be available from the Apple Apps Store, free of charge, but will require members to use their ARRL website login to gain access to individual issues of QST. Apps will support any Apple iOS device: iTouch, iPad, iPhone. We expect completion of the app in July. June's issue of QST is arriving in homes and we will be launching the digital edition on May 23 (upon return from Dayton). Once the digital edition goes live, members will find convenient links to the current digital issue and digital archives from www.arrl.org/qst. Members with questions about the digital edition can be directed to an online FAQ at www.arrl.org/digital-qst-faq. Amy Hurtado is interviewing candidates for a full-time position opening within the Member Services team. An online questionnaire has been published to help collect input and ideas from members and radio clubs for the 2014 ARRL Centennial: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22FPSDNZVC5. An ARRL e-news posting includes an invitation from President Kay Craigie directing members to the questionnaire. Bob Inderbitzen reports that Pacificon, hosting the 2012 ARRL National Convention in October, has committed a layout for their exhibit hall. It includes a large space to support ARRL EXPO. Materials were shipped to ARRL volunteers in California to help support the Amateur Radio demonstrations planned for Maker Faire in San Mateo, May 19 & 20, http://makerfaire.com/. The big festival showcases invention, creativity and resourcefulness-a perfect fit for Amateur Radio innovators and do-it-yourselfers. A least 5 radio clubs are collaborating to support booths and exhibits at the event, including Foothills Amateur Radio Society www.fars.k6ya.org, K6BEN Silicon Valley Amateur Television Group k6ben.com, Palo Alto Amateur Radio Association paara.org, South Bay Amateur Radio Association sbara.org, Blackberry REACT www.blackberryreact.org, and BAERS Ham Cram baears.com. ARRL volunteer Michael Pechner, NE6RD, has organized the participation of dozens of ham radio volunteers. This year, Pechner has made a special effort to encourage volunteers to demonstrate microcontroller technology supporting many different types of ham radio applications from APRS and digital mode operating to antenna rotor control. Membership & Volunteer Programs Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N W1AW Thanks to a "long-term" equipment loan from the ARRL Laboratory, W1AW is now in possession of a Hewlett-Packard HP 8562A Spectrum Analyzer and an HP 8640B Signal Generator. This equipment will be used to test the broadcast equipment when necessary, in addition to complementing the test equipment already located at W1AW. The multimode program fldigi (http://www.w1hkj.com/Fldigi.html) - created by Dave Freese, W1HKJ - is now in use for all the digital broadcasts. This software package replaces MixW. Three amateurs assisted in taking audio/frequency measurements (of the digital transmissions) as part of the software upgrade. As part of this process, Joe conducted daily frequency measuring tests on all the broadcast transmitters and adjusted them accordingly. Field Organization/Public Service Team Chuck Skolaut prepared the monthly ARRL Monitoring System report and forwarded it to the IARU Region 2 Coordinator. ARRL Headquarters received and forwarded to the FCC an update regarding interference to a net on 20 meters. Written documentation on this case also accompanied the update. Interference to an Eastern Washington repeater was referred to the Official Observer Coordinator there for follow up. There was also some potential intentional interference to the Yemen DX operation, and the Official Observer program is studying the situation. Questions regarding IDing on linked repeaters and IRLP users of repeaters were received and are being followed up on. Field Organization reports from around the country for the month of April arrived at HQ this past week, and Steve Ewald compiled them for July QST. Meanwhile, the typeset July QST article that presents the 2011 Simulated Emergency Test results was reviewed. Leona Adams and the Field Organization Team are preparing for the springtime Section Manager election results on May 22. Ballots are due at Headquarters by Friday, May 18.
