Yes, there is a great deal of push back, and frankly some of their concerns are worth looking at. However, there is a communications break down here that could mitigate most of the concerns. Once again, not all the information is provided and therefore misunderstandings reign supreme. Every coordinator group that has contacted me understands that going electronic rather than print is the way of the future; that is not one of the concerns voiced to me. However, all, the coordinators believe that ARRL will now be sharing their inputted information with RFinder. Mr. Ford assured me that this is not the case. The next concern is that RFinder input can be added, edited or deleted by anyone that has a subscription. Mr. Ford also assured me that this is not so. The following is an excerpt from his email to me: " I don't believe they can remove repeater listings and the ability to edit is limited. Plus, RFinder claims to have some sort of proprietary vetting process in place". " Any RFinder app user can enter or change repeater information. This is the way RFinder has always functioned. For our database that supports the printed Repeater Directory, information can only come from coordinators". The next issue is addressed by Mr. Ford, but to re-state, accuracy is a concern of the coordinators. If there is a robust vetting process, it was not made clear in any publication from ARRL. Finally, the coordinators feel that they were blindsided, as they weren't contacted in regards to RFinder effort. (I have not been able to verify that complaint) Thanks to Dave Sumner for his posting this morning which goes to my suggestion to all of us and to the coordinators. Let's get the record correct, before making proclamations. I believe we need our coordinating groups and I have asked those who have contact me to stand down for the moment, and allow us to correct or mitigate any of the concerns that they raise. I would suggest we all take that position. I am quite confident that Mr. Ford, Mr. Sumner and Mr. Greenberg are capable of setting the record straight. 73 and good Hamming Jim Pace, K7CEX ARRL the National Association for Amateur Radio Northwestern Division Director
