I was just reading in a CE trade journal that Kenwood lost $218 million last year. That might explain why we haven't seen much product output from them. They are laying off 30% of their work force in a consolidation and closing some plants. The press release says that they are keeping their US communications division largely intact. They are raising new capital and hope to return to profitability in their next FY.
I am sure all that is correct. The problem seems to be on the audio side of the house. The land mobile radio half (into which Amateur Radio is lumped) is the profitable part. Nonetheless, there was a consolidation, and Tom Wineland is out, effective in the next couple of weeks, max. The fate of the Georgia office is in some doubt long term, and it is likely that they will move everyone back into Long Beach, since that is where the mobile radio side of the house will be managed. I don't know more than that. Chris
