[arrl-odv:15920] Big Chicago Area Storm

24 AUG 2007 - 2330 CDT I have received a couple of inquiries about the very severe storm front that clobbered the entire Chicago metropolitan area late Thursday afternoon. We are OK and our property damage was absolutely minimal. We had small limbs, other debris all over our yard, about 1/4 of the apples stripped off our apple tree, and no electrical power for the better part of an hour. I have no visual damage to my antennas, but I have not had time to check their performance. We received 2.5" of rain in about 25 minutes with wind gusts of 80 mph. Tonight's detailed weather report said there was a minimal tornado about 15 miles to the east of us. Total rainfall in my gauge was 4.3" at 8:00 AM this morning. The Fox River is a couple feet above flood stage (several days of very heavy rain in southern Wisconsin) and will probably go as much as a foot higher before it crests. However our house is 7 blocks west of the river and 50-70 feet higher. We were extremely fortunate compared to lot of other folks. - Dick, W9GIG
