[arrl-odv:21777] Re: ARRL HQ email still down

Dave, Thanks for the notice. Do we know what is causing issues with ARRL.org email? - Bill david.sumner@ties.itu.int wrote:
As noted on the website, the email system at ARRL HQ has been down for a little over 24 hours. Work is progressing on getting it restored but there is no estimated time for restoration.
This only affects the email accounts for which arrl.org is the actual address; those of you for whom the arrl.org address is simply an alias should not be affected, nor is reflector traffic affected.
Needless to say, this is frustrating for all concerned.

Bill, your question and my status update crossed somewhere in cyberspace. The corrupted file issue was entirely internal -- it was not the result of anything external, either deliberate or otherwise. Dave

Bill: As you may already have seen, the HQ e-mail system is up and running this morning. Mail is flowing into the building as all the inbound messages had been queued at the upstream host. The event that developed on Tuesday was the result of a space issue on one of the servers that support MS Exchange and the HQ e-mail system. Log files didn’t have enough space and this caused the system to stop. Over the last several days, under the guidance of both Microsoft and Barracuda (back-up system) tech reps we have been trying to restore the entire system data base. There were several glitches along the way but most were resolved. We have restored the e-mails that had been in the database from back-ups, at this point, through June 6th. IT is in the process of “repairing” the data base lost on Tuesday and, once completed, will then begin the process of merging the messages from June 6 through June 18th. The process is one that involves multiple steps and, as a result, may take several days. There are some individuals (me, for example) who do have access to all their old messages but these are probably a limited number. Also, although not directly related to this issue, we are at the beginning of the process to move to new MS Exchange software on new, virtual servers. IT is planning to begin the migration of individual mailboxes as soon as Monday next week if possible. Everyone here is now busy working through their e-mails beginning from Tuesday. Apparently there were almost 5,000 messages queued and waiting for when we turned on the system this morning. 73, Barry J. Shelley, N1VXY Chief Financial Officer ARRL, Inc.
