[arrl-odv:19744] H.R. 607 and National League of Cities, etc.

The National League of Cities has mentioned H.R. 607 in a favorable light in the March 7 edition of their publication National Cities Weekly ( http://www.nlc.org/articles/articleItems/NCW03072011/dblock.aspx ). I have written a letter to the executive director of the organization explaining who Amateurs are and why the ARRL opposes the legislation in its present form. I don't expect the National League of Cities to start learning anything about spectrum management, but in the interests of leaving no stone unturned I thought it was necessary to point out the problems with the bill. I have written to all the co-sponsors (I think there are 11 at this time) of H.R. 607. Chwat's first report on letters received and delivered is attached. He expects that the next report will show more than 2,000 letters received, because his mailbox is starting to bulge. Some letters were undeliverable, because they were addressed to Senators rather than Representatives, were not signed, were about last year's legislation, or were otherwise so flawed as to do more harm than good. I am happy to see that committee chairman Upton of Michigan has received 4 letters. More would be good. Subcommittee chairman Walden (who as you probably know is a ham) only received 1 letter out of the bunch in this report. We need more letters going to him, and the sooner the better. I know that Jim Fenstermaker K9JF is working on something related to Rep. Walden. Dan Henderson is sending to Chwat about 150 letters generated under his supervision at the Birmingham hamfest over the weekend. He will also offer members the opportunity to generate letters at the hamfest in Charlotte this coming weekend. Jim Weaver K8JE has kindly offered to share with all of you the letter-generating software that he and some other Directors have been using. This is software initially developed by Trey Garlough N5KO and Dick Norton N6AA and then enhanced by Rich Haltermon KD4PYR. This software generates letters that are ready for the member to print, sign and send. Please contact Jim if you'd like to take him up on the offer. 73 - Kay N3KN

Hi, Kay. Chwat's spreadsheet shows no letters to Henry Waxman, yet I faxed mine to Chwat's office on February 25. Either he is very backed up or my letter has been misplaced. 73, Marty N6VI ----- Original Message ----- From: Kay Craigie To: ODV Reflector Sent: Tuesday, March 08, 2011 11:00 AM Subject: [arrl-odv:19744] H.R. 607 and National League of Cities, etc. The National League of Cities has mentioned H.R. 607 in a favorable light in the March 7 edition of their publication National Cities Weekly ( http://www.nlc.org/articles/articleItems/NCW03072011/dblock.aspx ).
