<<072110.doc>> IN-Newsletter <<Microsoft Word Picture>> Vol. 33, No. 29 July 21, 2010 -- Covers the period July11-17. Development Reported by Mary Hobart, K1MMH Development participated in the recent Administration & Finance Committee meeting and the 2-day ARRL Board Meeting. Thanks for Margie Bourgoin and Maryann Macdonald for the support they provided in preparing materials for the Board meeting. First returns to the recent Spectrum Defense mailing came in July 15. After four days of returns we have received 95 contributions totaling $8,121. So far we have 11 requests for electronic delivery of future issues of the Spectrum Defense Matters (SDM) newsletter. The newsletter has been posted in the Spectrum Defense area of the website and the week of July 25 an email with a link to the newsletter will be sent to members accepting information from ARRL. The next issue of SDM is scheduled for September delivery. The mailing for the Education & Technology Fund is expected to mail to 75,000 donors and members the last week in August to reach mailboxes the first week in September. A second mailing to current and lapsed Diamond Club donors will be sent to arrive the first week in October. It will mirror the successful mailing in Feb 2010 and encourage donors to renew their support by using the automatic monthly or quarterly giving option. Production/Editorial Reported by Joel Kleinman, N1BKE The September 2010 issue of QST was released to the printer July 20. Khrystyne Keane wrote and distributed The ARRL Letter and voiced and produced ARRL Audio News for July 15, 2010. Sales and Marketing Reported by Bob Inderbitzen, NQ1R Web announcements were produced for the image carousel on the home page, promoting the new PIC Programming book and upcoming August UHF Contest. Members have remarked very positively about this new feature of the web site. Thanks goes to Sue Fagan for the eye-catching designs. Diane Petrilli and Bob Inderbitzen will participate in some advanced-level Microsoft Access training next week. Access is the primary tool used by our team to segment data extracted from the ARRL membership/customer relationship management system for direct marketing and analysis. A Thursday and Friday email solicitation and reminder offering a free Repeater Directory with purchases of $20 or more generated an influx of orders Friday morning (219) and over the weekend (298). These are welcome levels of activity following a slow start to July product sales. An ad was produced for September QST featuring ARRL publications and products for emergency communications and public service volunteers. This same issue of QST will help celebrate the 75th anniversary of ARES. Some commemorative anniversary mementos are in-the-works including T-shirts, mugs and an ARES anniversary "challenge coin." Challenge coins are die struck medallions, often bearing an organization's insignia or service emblem. The coins are carried by members or program participants to show support or affinity. During the last week, the warehouse crew fulfilled 856 packages for publication and product orders, 278 membership premiums, and QST mailing supplements. Membership & Volunteer Programs Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N W1AW Scott worked on slow and fast code practice files for the middle part of the month of July. He also assisted the DXCC department with the editing of applications. Field Organization/Public Service Team Steve Ewald completed work for his contributions to September QST including the Public Service column, the annual Simulated Emergency Test (SET) announcement and the monthly Field Organization Reports. The main weekend for the 2010 SET is scheduled for October 2 and 3. In their monthly Section News reports, many Section Managers have been talking about the fun and success of Field Day activities in their respective sections. Leona Adams reports that filled-out Section Manager election ballots for Ohio and Southern Florida Sections have begun to arrive at ARRL Headquarters. Members in those sections have until August 20 to return their ballots. A radio amateur from Illinois gained approval to rejoin the ARRL Monitoring System/Intruder Watch this week. He had previously participated years ago. Chuck Skolaut compiled and forwarded the monthly OO summary to all Official Observers, Official Observer Coordinators, and Section Managers. The monthly ARRL Monitoring System/Intruder Watch report was compiled and sent to the Region 2 IARU Monitoring Coordinator. Updated information regarding business use of a repeater was received and forwarded to the FCC. Questions that were handled this week covered topics about tactical call signs, Technician Class band privileges, the ROS mode, and felons that hold an Amateur Radio license. Chuck also filled in as a tour guide around Headquarters.
