[arrl-odv:18033] FW: ARRL Trade Mark Requirements

I just sent this email to staff. You might find some of this information helpful, particularly about the recently filed trademark. 73, Harold Harold Kramer, WJ1B Chief Operating Officer ARRL - The national association for Amateur Radio 860 594 0220 hkramer@arrl.org _____________________________________________ From: Kramer, Harold, WJ1B Sent: Wednesday, August 19, 2009 11:15 AM To: HQ Staff Subject: ARRL Trade Mark Requirements Hi, We are requesting that all of our employees comply with a consistent email standard and signature. This will make us: * More professional and consistent in our email correspondence * Avoid confusion about who we are * Reinforce our trademarks * Make us more uniformly branded to our members and to the general public. For some background information on how we represent ourselves, at the second Board of Directors meeting in 1999, the Board adopted a resolution that emphasizes using the abbreviation "ARRL," rather than "American Radio Relay League." Based on a review of our trademarks at the July 2010 A & F Committee of our Board, we have applied to trademark the phrase "ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio(tm)" at the US Patent and Trademark Office. Because of this action, we now need to place the (tm) next to this phrase whenever possible. We do not need to reprint current literature, brochures and correspondence, but we need to add the (tm) as we move forward. Based on these actions, here are our format guidelines: * When preparing a letter, email message or other text document, the following formats are preferred: ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio(tm) or ARRL - The national association for Amateur Radio(tm) We are also asking that you: * Do not use graphics and colored backgrounds in email correspondence. * Do not include graphics and logos within an email signature. * Do not include taglines, slogans or quotes within an email signature, unless your department manager has approved of them. Here are the signature recommendations. Please try to follow these examples. ------------------------------------------------ Example #1 - email signature: Sincerely, Mary M.
