I recently received a note from a member who wondered why there were so many laptops seen in a recent Board meeting photo in QST. In the last week or two, there have been segments on our local TV news shows, and articles in the newspaper about some Silicon Valley companies adopting a no-laptop policy for meetings, and also banning connected devices like blackberries, I-phones, and others. Here's a URL that mentions most of the issues. <http://www.sltrib.com/ci_8753164>http://www.sltrib.com/ci_8753164. As they say on the 'net, FWIW & YMMV.
As Bruce noted, I was an early laptop user at Board meetings but haven't used one actively during the meeting in years now... And Mike and I used a 49 MHz device one Board meeting to keep in touch. Bob - appreciate knowing your members are curious about laptops (they are certainly modern technology from the point of view of some hams), and that someone wants to micromanage Board meetings, but what you left out of your message was how you replied to the person who asked about the laptops. :^ ) You usually use one as I recall. -- Tom ===== e-mail: k1ki@arrl.org ARRL New England Division Director http://www.arrl.org/ Tom Frenaye, K1KI, P O Box J, West Suffield CT 06093 Phone: 860-668-5444
