[arrl-odv:21210] More LoTW

I have recently learned that there has been some consideration given to seeking LoTW help from outside the halls of 225. Perhaps help can be provided by some of our members, many of whom toil daily in the fields of the IT world. One suggestion that I have received is that an LoTW Advisory Board can be recruited from among the many experts who also contest and DX. One of my members suggests: "LoTW is absolutely a victim of it's own success. I have been involved with several web app database LoTW types of systems and they are difficult to scale as they grow without significant investment and rewrite. Let's either be patient or put our money where our mouth is. Perhaps our Division Director can suggest a LoTW Advisory Board to assist." Others have suggested that ClubLog and eQSL can manage uploads following a major contest, literally in seconds, while LoTW bogs down for days and weeks while it works through the queue of logs awaiting processing. Another has suggested that encrypted entries in massive numbers are managed quite nicely by numerous financial institutions. ClubLog and eQSL are not funded to the extent that the financial institutions are. Is there something we can do with outside help, or more financial support, that would allow us to provide adequate service levels for our members who depend on LoTW? I don't see this as a problem with the members of our IT staff. Can it be that "we" do not fund LoTW hardware, software, and staffing sufficiently? Bob Vallio -- W6RGG

GM all, I have been fielding quite a few complaints from across the Delta Division and it does look like it spans the membership now, ergo I shall kick the proverbial dog. Perhaps it is time for a review, revision and upgrade of LOTW. I shall place this at the top of the PSC agenda this week. 73 ES DX David A. As of 7:00 a.m., Central Time, the December issue of QST is not available for download or viewing by the iPhone App. I logged out and logged back in --- no difference. 73 *-----------------------------------------------------* ** John Robert Stratton N5AUS Office telephone: 512-445-6262 Cell: 512-426-2028 PO Box 2232 Austin, Texas 78768-2232 *-----------------------------------------------------*

http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/arrl/qst_201212/index.php takes you to December QST. The link from http://www.arrl.org/qst "View QST Now" takes you to December. David Thank you for the reply and checking into the problem; but when nxtbook and the ARRL announce to members the digital availability of any issue or product, it should be available by all venues. The purpose of the App is for Members not to have to go to a website via browser. The vendor's failure to ensure that December QST was available via the App before the release announcement to Members is an another unnecessary embarrassment to the League. It appears we cannot rely on the vendor and must double check everything ourselves. 73 *-----------------------------------------------------* ** John Robert Stratton N5AUS Office telephone: 512-445-6262 Cell: 512-426-2028 PO Box 2232 Austin, Texas 78768-2232 *-----------------------------------------------------* On 11/14/12 7:36 AM, Sumner, Dave, K1ZZ wrote:

The email went out from here rather than from Nxtbook. This is still a bit new to us. In any case, thanks for pointing out the problem so it could be dealt with promptly. It was very nice to hear Dave Sumner's speech again - the one that he gave at the Banquet at PACIFICON. It was a real hit at my workplace...seems everyone enjoys digital QST, even if they aren't all Hams! Well done, Mr. Sumner. Your speech was great!!! 73, Joyce KA2ANF -----Original Message----- From: arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org [mailto:arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org]On Behalf Of Sumner, Dave, K1ZZ Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2012 8:37 AM To: arrl-odv Subject: [arrl-odv:21214] Re: December QST & iPhone App http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/arrl/qst_201212/index.php takes you to December QST. Thanks, Joyce. It's fun to speak to an attentive and appreciative audience. K7AGE did a nice job putting it on YouTube, too. Good evening, If everyone is getting the same emails complaining that I am, then yes, it's past time to have a discussion about LOTW. 73, Joyce -----Original Message----- From: arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org [mailto:arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org]On Behalf Of David Norris Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2012 9:59 AM To: Bob Vallio Cc: arrl-odv Subject: [arrl-odv:21211] Re: More LoTW GM all, I have been fielding quite a few complaints from across the Delta Division and it does look like it spans the membership now, ergo I shall kick the proverbial dog.
