[ARRL-ODV:11012] Re: ARES trademark

Andy - One thing to keep in mind is that the Board motion does not mandate the use of the new ARES Winlink 2000 network, but encourages use of it as another tool (a very powerful tool!) in the ARES toolbox. It is a new system that is now available for use by ARES folks at all levels. An SM is in no way required to use the system and can stick to whatever plans they are currently using. As has been said about the new ARES network before, it will sell itself. As the use of the new network expands and the expanded capability and usefulness of the system becomes better known, those who are now reluctant to use it will likely be pressured by their constituents to take renewed looks at this new system. In the case of SMs, the members have an opportunity to replace them every 2 years. That is the ultimate attitude adjustment. 73, Wade W0EJ
This is the same SM (Rudy Hubbard, WA4PUP) that has an Alert on his Section Web Page stating that his Section will not use the Winlink 2000 system and will continue to use their own Gateway System instead. From what I hear, this SM also torpedoed a Winlink 2000 presentation in his section by allocating a ridiculously short time for the presentation. Seems to me some sort of attitude adjustment is in order.

For what it is worth, the SM of Northern Florida has decided not to use ARES in his section emcomm efforts. From now on it is AREC in Northern Florida. Do we need to register that as well? 73 Sandy, W4RU
