[arrl-odv:11875] Re: Response to White Paper on American Samoa

To answer Jay's questions: 1) Other than letters from Larry Gandy the only evidence of interest on the part of residents of American Samoa that I have seen is a petition signed by six people, including Gandy, in October 2004 asking that ARRL's representation of American Samoa in the IARU be terminated. 2) DXCC generally uses nautical charts to determine distances. We don't have this particular chart since it has not been needed, but Bill Moore has ordered one. Bernie McClenny says he has measured the distance on a chart as 351 km. Have there been any comments, concerns or expressions of interest on the Swain's Island matter from any Amateurs who are residents of American Samoa? 2. Does DXCC rely on a standard map reference to determine distances when distance is a determining criteria? I recognize distance doesn't come into play in this case because America Samoa doesn't have an IARU Member Society. I don't plan any further public comment. I note that they don't even bother to try to perpetuate the lie that I agreed to anything in Taipei. It refers to White Paper "lies and half truths." http://www.swains-island.org/swainsreponce.htm 73, K5UR
