[arrl-odv:16496] Re: Comments Please - division website hosting

However, hosting a few pages where SMs have limited editing capability for some fields on pages is far different from hosting entire sites. To host sites, the webmaster needs a home directory that they own with the ability to create subdirectories, upload files (usually via ftp), change file permissions, install software (e.g. MySQL database for wiki content), create new users (e.g. Section webmasters) and give them limited access to content. Hosting sites provide applications to do all this, and the league would have to either build or buy this capability. On top of all that, do you really want non-employees uploading files to a corporate web server? There are a lot of things that could go wrong. -- Andy Oppel, N6AJO
Bob, ours is pretty low-cost and donated by the meister. Uniformity of URLs might be a good reason to look at your idea. http://www.arrlmidwest.org/
