[arrl-odv:30253] Fwd: Remote Field Day Proposal

An interesting idea for FD. This went out to all the Bears (Boeing Employees Amateur Radio Society) club members and I asked if I could re-post this message, the reply was "yes" Mark, HDX Hello Mark, No problem sharing the info. I would point out that this was the brain child of Don Sandstrom W7VXS our HF and Contesting Chair. Roger Swann KK7SX our Treasurer and myself John MacDuff KA7TTY President supported the trial run to prove the concept. At this point I am not sure we will get enough interest to actually pull this off, but it is still early. We do have 5 members including the 3 of us who are genuinely interested in making it happen. I would point out that we have a pretty unique situation with a club ham shack which itself is pretty isolated. Take a look at our WEB, www.k7nws.com . There is a link to a new look for the WEB we are working on which features a picture of our compound. This will make keeping the Local Assistants isolated and COVID-19 safe. Like most clubs these days, our average age puts most of us in the "higher risk" category so that is important. 73, and take care, John KA7TTY ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: John MacDuff <johntty@dhuibh.net> Date: Sun, May 3, 2020 at 2:50 PM Subject: Remote Field Day Proposal To: me @ Dhuibh <johntty@dhuibh.net> Fellow BEARS, At our meeting on Saturday May 2nd we presented a proposal for conducting a Remote Field Day that would allow members to operate the BEARS HF station on digital modes from their home computer. I need to know if there is enough interest to develop this plan onto a working project. I have attached a copy of the slides that were presented Saturday for you to review. Looking at the Remote Operator Roles and Duties on page 6, are you interested in this kind of operation for Field Day? This is not a commitment to actually participate. Please let me know "Yes I am interested" or "No I am not interested", and we will decide what to do next. Thanks, John KA7TTY BEARS President

Hi Mark, My friends at FlexRadio engineering have also proposed IP connected field day - the radios (transmitters) themselves will be in a central location, such as a tent or trailer. Operators can then connect via wi-fi, or if they have an internet connection, internet remote. The transmitters are still within the 1000 foot circle but the operators can stay socially distanced. 73 Ria, N2RJ On Wed, 6 May 2020 at 11:27, Mark J Tharp <kb7hdx@gmail.com> wrote:

Excellent! I was wondering when someone was going to pick up the “remote control ball” and run with it. Where there is a will there is a way and never underestimate the resourcefulness of the average amateur radio operator. Improvise, adapt and overcome! Oohrah! 73 David A. I was just impressed with the amount of time spent coming up with the idea. And it was a nice presentation to the group. They don't have a fully remote station but are still planning to make it work. Mark On Wed, May 6, 2020 at 8:55 AM rjairam@gmail.com <rjairam@gmail.com> wrote:
