Upcoming Meetings and Events United States Telecommunications Training Institute (USTTI) September 27-October 1 - ARRL HQ Executive Committee Meeting October 23 @ 9:00am in St. Louis, MO Ballot Counting for Director/Vice Director Elections November 19 in Newington, CT Media & Public Relations Reported by Allen Pitts, W1AGP I am awaiting confirmation of a time when we can interview the Arcade Fire band for probably QST article. Initial responses to the 75th anniversary of ARES materials continues to be positive. More materials should be coming out in a week or two. National Geographic sent us an email announcing their Katrina special will first air August 23, but that they are not using any of the materials or people contacts we shared with them. The PRC and I have noted that there is very little promotion being put out by DHS/FEMA about National Preparedness Month so far this year. We had expected much more and to hook it into the 75th ARES campaign. But we shall do well anyway. Development Reported by Mary Hobart, K1MMH The Education & Technology Fund mailing is in production and expected to mail before the end of August to 75,000 donors and members. The Spectrum Defense campaign has reached $108,761. The second issue of Spectrum Defense Matters is planned for early September and will mail to 40,000 donors and email to members who have opted in for special offers from ARRL. There is an opt-out message on the Spectrum Defense Matter page of the website. So far, Development has not received any complaints or opt-out messages attributable to the newsletter. The Diamond Club is nearly 60% of the way to the 2010 goal of $263,000. The W1AW campaign has topped $75,000 which is $10,000 over the campaign target. Production/Editorial Reported by Joel Kleinman, N1BKE Khrystyne Keane wrote and distributed The ARRL Letter and voiced and produced ARRL Audio News for August 19, 2010. Membership & Volunteer Programs Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N W1AW W1AW received a donation of a number of audio products from Heil Sound. In addition to some mic adapters, mic booms with associated hardware, two (2) PR781 microphones and four (4) PRO Set Elite headsets were received. Joe assembled and installed an antenna side-arm on the Satellite tower. This side-arm holds a 23cm vertical antenna that will be used with the Icom ID-1 D-Star 23cm radio. This antenna will be raised higher when the antenna contractors are here for the Autumn tower inspections. He also ran cables for the antenna. He also updated the web code practice files for the previous week. Scott worked on slow and fast code practice files for the latter part of the month of August. He also assisted the DXCC department with the editing of applications. Field Organization/Public Service Team Leona Adams reports that Mike Lisenco, N2YBB, Section Manager of New York City/Long Island, has been nominated to run for a new term of office starting on January 1, 2011. Mike delivered the nominating petition in person on Thursday, August 19, when he was Newington and visited Headquarters. The deadline for all Section Manager nomination petitions for this particular election cycle is Friday, September 10. The Membership and Volunteer Programs office is prepared to count Section Manager election ballots from Ohio and Southern Florida on Tuesday, August 24. Chuck Skolaut returned from a successful Kansas State Convention. While there here was able to meet with the League Vice President, Midwest Director and Vice Director and took part in the ARRL Forum. Chuck returned to HQ with a number of new and renewed memberships. A radio amateur from Illinois and one from Indiana have successfully completed their certification to become Official Observers this past week. Headquarters received a report of a "buzz" signal over a wide area in the southeastern areas of the United States, and that is under investigation. We also received an updated report of jamming and interference to a 75 meter net.
