[arrl-odv:34494] FW: AA3HD - An Update

These are the kinds of emails I love to receive. I thought you’d enjoy reading it. Thanks to Director Ritz for getting VOTA on the air from OR! Here’s one of your 600+ contacts! Among other things that I did there was listen to you give the keynote address. I found your talk very inspiring and informative, and I very much enjoyed your transparency and truthfulness...something that I find lacking in much of our society today. Near the end of your talk you asked all of us to do three things: 1) Become a Diamond Club member. 2) Get just one person active on the air over the next year. This can be someone newly licensed, or someone who is licensed, but inactive. 3) Lastly, that 2023 will be the year of the volunteer, and you asked that all members ‘move up one rung’ in their responsibilities as an active ham. I wanted to let you know that I took your talk to heart. At the beginning of this year I became a Diamond Club member. I got a fairly inactive HAM, (Rick -- KB1ASM), to get active and convinced him to run for President of the little HAM club I belong to, (York County Amateur Radio Club -- www.W1YCA.org<http://www.W1YCA.org>), and in November he did get elected President. Lastly, also in November, I 'moved up a one rung' and was elected Secretary in our club from just being a member. I have also become more active in my membership with the York County Emergency Communications Team, helping our Team Lead, (Neil, K1NBT), in developing scenarios for our ECOMM exercises, and becoming an authorized SHARES alternate radio operator for the York County Emergency Management Agency. I know I am not the most active amateur radio operator, but I did want to let you know that your words didn't just go in one ear and out the other with me. I will be trying to steer our club president towards getting our club ARRL affiliated, and wonder if you might suggest a Maine ARRL official who could come and speak to our club about the pros and cons of such a move, and what requirements our club must meet to become ARRL affiliated. Thank you for your time, and happy new year of the volunteer. I've already had a QSO with Mike, W7VO!! 73 - Tony - AA3HD
