[arrl-odv:14190] FW: [QRP-L] ARRL Official stops German QRP Club pro Amateur Radioactivitie

Greetings, A few of you have received email from a couple of members concerned about the email from DL2FI attached below. Dave will be responding to the email, however as I was also in Friedrichshafen you should be aware of the entire story. This group was selling Tshirts with the "When All Else Fails" logo. They had purchased one TShirt at Dayton, brought it home and had 250 of their own made and removed "www.arrl.org" from the bottom and placed their own web site address in its place. Bob Inderbitzen, who was also in Friedrichshafen, went to the booth and asked the people if they were affiliated with DARC, the German IARU society that sponsors the Friedrichshafen convention. We have an agreement with our sister IARU societies that allows this. The response to Bob's question was no, there is no affiliation. Bob then attempted to arrange a very simple agreement with them and they again refused. He then requested they stop selling the TShirts until some arrangement could be worked out. Bob handled the matter very politely and very professionally, however this group refused to cooperate. Bob was even going to go back and attempt to discuss the matter with them again. I don't know if he had the opportunity or what the outcome of that was prior to my departure to Zurich earlier today. Peter, who sent the email to the QRP reflector, was not even there however I take exception to his comment that they are only trying to promote amateur radio. They are trying to make a profit from a product, pure and simple. I have no problem with any individual, organization or company making a profit except when they do so with our product in the manner in which they did! They did not order 250 TShirts from us at a reduced price to resale or inquire about reproducing them for resale, they purchased one shirt at Dayton and brought it home and had it reproduced without our knowledge. As I mentioned, this is just an FYI in case you receive something from a member. No action is required and Dave will be responding to Peter. I'll be flying home tomorrow. 73 Joel HB9/W5ZN Zurich -----Original Message----- From: qrp-l-bounces@mailman.qth.net [mailto:qrp-l-bounces@mailman.qth.net]On Behalf Of Peter Zenker Sent: Saturday, June 24, 2006 3:58 AM To: qrp-l@mailman.qth.net Subject: [QRP-L] ARRL Official stops German QRP Club pro Amateur Radioactivitie Today at German HAM Vention in Friedrichshafen, an ARRL official visited our Club (DL-QRP-AG, Flying-Pig Pink Baron) stand. Of course we thought he would buy one of our famous pro Ham Radio T-Shirts. You remeber, my QRP version of the "When all else fails " T Shirt. As you can see it ar www.qrpproject.de In my Dayton report, published in the German HAM Radio Magazin I published the ARRL original. A quarter of text length I tell my readers, what a great idea of ARRL it is to organize sympathie for HAM Radio with this excellent T-Shirt Motiv. I think you know what happened this morning at the DL-QRP-AG / Pink Baron Stand ?? Yes, This official of ARRL Man did NOT buy the T-Shirt. He advised us to pack away our T-shirts because they are copyrighted, otherwise........ For me this is unbelieveable because our T-Shirt does not hurt ARRL Activities. Seems this ARRL Official is thinking the same way the German Club officials do: The Club is the club ist the club is the club. Their idea is not to help Amateur Radio, their idea is to help the Club. That is the same failure, the German officials make, thats the reason that more and mor members are running away and that was the reason that I canceled my mission as Area Director of German DARC a year ago. Unfortunately I am not at the HAM Vention because I got another lumbago attack at Tuesday. My son Nikolai, DL7NIK phoned me in and I didnt see a way to let him fight against ARRL officials at Ham Vention because he is a young man and he´s running the complete stande their on his own now for the first time. 72 de Peter, DL2FI Very unhappy because a really good pro Amateur Radio PR action had to be stopped because some burocratic **** do not think in terms of HAM Radio but in Terms of business. ______________________________________________________________ QRP-L mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/qrp-l Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:QRP-L@mailman.qth.net
