[arrl-odv:17215] Mailings to Directors

Returned from the Southwestern Division Convention in Phoenix to find three large envelopes from ARRL in my mailbox. All were sent by first class mail and all were postmarked from Newington on September 10. Envelope 1 had a copy of QEX, and used postage of $1.68. Envelope 2 had a copy of NCJ, and used postage of $1.68. Envelope 3 had both a copy of QEX and a copy of NCJ, and used postage of $2.36. I do not independently subscribe to either magazine, and assume all copies were sent because I am a director. Obviously $3.36 of postage plus two envelopes plus two magazines plus the staff effort to package, address, and mail envelopes 1 and 2 are unnecessary costs. I assume that this duplicate mailing was repeated to others. As a representative of those footing the bill, I'd like to suggest that some effort be made put together and manage an system where only the combined mailing takes place. As someone who ran his own business for many years, I may pay more attention to such details of costs than do others. I was similarly irked when a staff member sent some items I requested using overnight mail for $55, instead of first class mail, which would have been very adequate and would have cost one tenth as much. Even if this is only controlled for mailings to me, the ODV group might be spared from messages like this. 73, Dick, N6AA
