[ARRL-ODV:9191] Re: ARRL a joiner?

In San Diego, we have the San Diego Amateur Radio Council, of which reps from the League are most welcome to attend, however we have no voting privs what so ever. Also, we are asked our opinions from time to time. Sumner, Dave, K1ZZ wrote:
The Council in question is the Florida Gulf Coast Amateur Radio Council. It is an ARRL affiliate.
Personally, I don't think the ARRL can be a member of a Council. Whether the Section Manager is invited to attend Council meetings as a non-voting participant is a different matter. I also think the SM has the discretion to decide whether $25 of his section funds should be provided to the Council to defray the cost of participation. But ARRL as a voting member? No.

Rosalie and Mark are on vacation. I have asked Steve Ewald what he thinks he said. Please stand by.

I don't have enough information, though it certainly sounds unusual to me for the ARRL or an ARRL Section to be a member of another Amateur Radio organization (other than the IARU, which is a different kettle of fish). What is the organization, and what is its purpose? Why did Steve Ewald think it was a good idea to do this? Couldn't there be some other kind of relationship the Section could have with this organization that would seem more natural to all concerned? 73 - Kay N3KN
