ODV, As discussed briefly at the last Board meeting, the attached comments were filed with the FCC in support of moving transmitters used on fishing equipment from the top end of the 160-meter band to a VHF channel. Congress directed the FCC to consider such a move, but left the decision to the Commission. Most commenters are fishing concerns and expressed support for using VHF. The only commenter expressing support for continued use of 160 meters was the American Association of Railroads (AAR). Their focus was opposing any sharing of a channel that railroads use. In that context, AAR expressed support for continued use of the 160-meter band for fishing equipment, rather than fishing uses being moved to the VHF channel that the railroads use. AAR did not oppose moving the fishing equipment transmitters to either of the two other channels that were suggested by the FCC, nether of which are used by railroads, but was stronger in supporting continued use of 160 meters. With this thin a record, I do not see a reason to recommend a response because our comments make the points needed to contrast with those of the AAR.
