[arrl-odv:34239] W1YL SK

I just spotted this on Kay Craigie's Facebook page a few moments ago: Amateur radio friends: From a post by Chip Margelli: “We're deeply saddened to have heard of the passing overnight of a giant in amateur radio, Ellen White, W1YL. Ellen learned Morse Code in high school in the 1940s as a "war course" in service to her country, and (with the encouragement of her husband Bob, with whom she eloped in 1945), she went on to become a professional radio engineer, in a field utterly dominated by men. Ellen went on to join the American Radio Relay League in the Communications Department, overseeing ARRL's radio sporting activities among her many duties. She was a visionary in the world of contesting, and she worked alongside Bob (W1CW later in life) who was known as "Mr. DXCC" in the ham radio world.” ———— At age 95, Ellen was active with Morse code on the air until very recently, via a remote station out west. She set the example and led the way. 33 and 88 to you, Ellen. __ Phil Temples <phil@temples.com>
