[arrl-odv:14457] Re: DIRECTORS - YOUR ATTENTION REQUIRED

Joel (et al) -- I think that FCC and certain BPL companies have screwed with us on this issue for long enough. BPL is a credible threat to our ability to communicate as licensees, whether casually as a hobby or seriously during/after an event which has caused other methods of communication to fail. ARRL calls itself the national association for Amateur Radio, and it has taken up many causes in the past to defend our ability to pursue and enjoy Ham Radio -- not just for members, but for the entire Ham community. BPL is obviously one such cause. When we commit to a certain cause that threatens our abilities and/or existence as a Ham community, we owe it to our loyal, dues-paying members as well as the general Ham community to **NOT** bring a knife to a gun fight. Otherwise we have no business claiming to represent them, anywhere. While it will be expensive and arduous, I am pleased that our organization is finally leaning towards a means of slowing/reducing/ending this threat in a courtroom rather than expending more time and money on another petition addressed to a seemingly and grossly biased body. Given your memo, Chris's memo, and Dave's position that our oganization can afford this action, I support the pursuit of a judicial appeal. 73, Brian, N5ZGT ARRL Vice-Director, Rocky Mountain Division On Wed, 6 Sep 2006, Joel Harrison wrote:
