Katie has been using a link-checker to check all of the links on the site. This is not as easy as it appears since link checkers often cannot read the restricted areas of the site, such as pages restricted to ODV or SMs. However, we are working on it. Any reports of broken links are helpful and should be sent to Katie so she can fix them. That is our current process. Also, as you know, sometimes the site or internal page that we are linked to changes address and this also causes a bad link. 73, Harold -----Original Message----- From: jfenster@pacifier.com [mailto:jfenster@pacifier.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 10, 2010 10:00 PM To: arrl-odv Subject: [arrl-odv:19275] Proxy Errors plus Web Implementation Links HI Gang, During the past few days, I have received many of the 502 Proxy Errors from a number of inquiries. I guess I must log every attempt and turn these into Katie for review. Do we have a root cause for these types of errors? On another issue, at the Northwestern DX Convention a few weeks ago, I spoke to a VE7 who works on web sites (both new and replacement) as his "for pay" job. He indicated that he likes the new site better than the old both for the information availability and for the architecture. He also noted that conversions like ours generally become more stable after AT LEAST six months. But, he noted that the thing that destroys any credibility with the new site zre links that don't work. The 502 proxy error is one issue. The others are links that are not in place. Do we have a Quality Control process that insures that links are in place and work prior to putting the new article, message, or other information article into production? I hope that we do but it needs to be proven. 73 Jim K9JF
I just tried to log on to the web site and was greeted with a 502 Proxy Error. I opened a new browser, and tried again. This time, after 37 seconds of waiting for the log-in to take effect, I was finally able to get to ODV and find the document as in the past, using the same method that Marty suggested. When do we admit it doesn't work, and fix it or replace it?

Katie,
Not sure if I'm alone with this situation, but when I click on the link Dave Sumner provided to the Alternative E-mail Addresses I receive the following error message: __________
Proxy Error The proxy service received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy serve could not handle the request * GET/alternative-e-mail-addresses*.
Reason: *Error reading from remote server* ** ___________________________________________________________________ *Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at www.arrl.orgPort 80* ** *__________*
When I go to ODV and click on the link (that says the alternative addresses are not yet available) I am taken to these alternative addresses.
FWIW.
Tnx,
Jim
