Professor Rappaport may file a reply to this. Some of it he claims is not accurate, and on the surface this doesn’t take into account the whole system of pactor+WinLink. I’ve been doing my own research on it and there is a lot that has evolved around this issue. I’m hoping both sides come to a resolution that is fair. Simply allowing unlimited wideband digital that tramples all others all across the HF digital bands is not acceptable. Messages that pass commercial content, foul language and sexually explicit content without transparency to the amateur public to notice and report this content (as demonstrated by the traffic that was revealed when ARSFI opened their message viewer to the public) is also not acceptable. At the same time many recognize the need for robust digital communications for emergencies and also not impede the development of new data modes and applications for amateur radio communications. I’m hoping we come to a resolution to this that is fair to all users of the HF bands and allows the ARRL to uphold part 97 rules.
