[arrl-odv:13978] Latest report from Eric at Chwat & Co.

Here is the latest Capitol Hill report from Eric Heis. Bullet #5 about "subcommittee markup" refers to the Telecom Bill. We're trying to get the operative language from H.Res. 230 inserted at the Committee level. Dave _____ All of our meetings during the past couple weeks have been very positive. Staff understand our issues, understand who ARRL represents, and are genuinely interested in learning more and helping out, especially when presented with constituent letters. * Our meetings included Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Tim Murphy (R-PA), Bart Stupak (D-MI), Mary Bono (D-CA), Vito Fossella (R-NY), Jay Inslee (D-WA), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), John Shadegg (R-AZ), John Shimkus (R-IL), Mike Rogers (R-MI), Steve Chabot (R-OH), Albert Wynn (D-MD) and Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD). * Rep. Shadegg's (R-AZ)'s and Rep. Lowey's (D-NY) offices were both given reports by ARRL on local BPL activity in their districts. * Of the 88, we have visited 25 Representatives and a handful of Senators. * In Addition to the 88, this past week the last of the letters that we have received at Chwat & Company have been hand delivered to their respective office. Over 600 letters to 115 House offices (28 of these offices being part of the 88 targeted) have been handed to the Representative, taken into a meeting, or delivered to an office with a letter and a quick meeting with the staffer responsible for telecom issues. * There were no affecting amendments in the subcommittee markup that took place on Wednesday, but most of the offices we have met with are interested in supporting ARRL when amendments are allowed in the Full Committee. This focus will be further espoused after a meeting with Chairman Barton's (R-TX) Committee office coming in the next two week period with Chris Imlay. * Rep. Davis' (R-VA) office is working on scheduling a meeting for us to discuss Manassas BPL issues. * Though the focus will be on the committee these coming weeks, I will continue my meetings, starting with more effort on the Senate side, as the telecom legislation is expected to start soon. Any questions can be forwarded to me or Mr. Chwat.
