[arrl-odv:12923] Re: Communications Emergency?

Brian, Some informal discussions were held Sunday between some of our staff and Riley who brought up this issue. At that time, the FCC did not want to take that step. In light of the present situation, that might reconsider, although the current nets are working are pretty much free from malicious interference. Riley has been in touch with our staff and the FCC is monitoring the net frequencies and have "intervened" when necessary. All -- In the past, FCC has declared communications emergencies following disasters. What's happening in the southeast is clearly larger than any other disaster in our recent history, and I've not seen anything from the FCC with regard to a communication emergency. Done anyone know if one is anticipated? Should ARRL request one from FCC on our ARES members' behalf? Or has FCC done away with such notices? Be safe. 73, Brian, N5ZGT ARRL Vice-Director, Rocky Mountain Division
