[arrl-odv:29200] Video embeds and concerns

Posting this to all of ODV because we also maintain websites with embedded content. Might also be good to pass along to the PR committee who deals with this sort of thing. A member called me today, sort of alarmed that a YouTube embedded video that we had put out also played related videos from other channels, some of which were negative on ham radio. I can get where he's coming from. That said, there seems to be a way to only play related videos from that specific channel, which won't link other channels. This tutorial explains: https://www.geekytech.co.uk/remove-disable-related-videos-youtube-embed/ Basically adding rel=0 to the end of the embedded url will play relateds only from your channel and not from others. You can't turn it off entirely as Google wants to keep the videos playing (for ad revenue I guess). 73 Ria, N2RJ

Dear Ria: As the board liaison to the PRC, I will share this with the committee and have it placed on our next monthly meeting agenda, which is January 8. This is an ongoing problem fraught with many concerns over content assessment, policy procedures and restrictions, and resources for enforcement. We'll look into it and let you know our findings. 73 de Bill Morine, N2COP Vice Director - Roanoke Division Representing ARRL members in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia www.arrl-roanoke.org Facebook Page: ARRL Roanoke Division ARRL - The National Association for Amateur RadioT -----Original Message----- From: arrl-odv <arrl-odv-bounces@reflector.arrl.org> On Behalf Of rjairam@gmail.com Sent: Monday, December 23, 2019 2:04 PM To: ODV <arrl-odv@arrl.org> Subject: [arrl-odv:29200] Video embeds and concerns Posting this to all of ODV because we also maintain websites with embedded content. Hi Ria, ODV, Scott St. Onge has updated the RSGB and Wyoming PBS videos that are embedded on the ARRL web pages. Hopefully, it was one of those that Ria was referring to. As Scott says, please let us know if you hear about any others with this problem, and Scott will be able to quickly correct. 73 and Merry Christmas, Howard, WB2ITX Howard E.
