[ARRL-ODV:10153] Mitigating BPL interference

----- Original Message ----- From: <walstrom@mchsi.com>
How will mitigating BPL interference problems in the future differ from how the power line operators "mitigate" power line noise interference problems today?
Wade, I hope I'm not being a Pollyanna, but I can see some hope of being able to effectively and efficiently get individual relief from BPL interference. Unlike line noise, where often the complainant has only a vague idea of where the offending hardware is, we should be able to reach a power company's BPL desk and report the bands we have interference on. I assume they then could quickly invoke notches on those freqs. and protect us (and other licensed users). The disgusting thing is that this shouldn't be necessary for licensed users -- dealing with a Part 15 service...... not to mention that many licensed users will be clueless when they are ripped apart by new mystery hash. If I'm wrong, maybe we can develop the BPL-version of the "20 wpm string of dits" that seemed to get the Russian Woodpecker to QSY(didn't Cass call it the Poltava Pestilence ??) . I bet Ed Hare could even figure out some cw transmission string & rate that would spell out "Damn the FCC" on BPL subscribers' web browser screens! Bruce
