The Northwestern Division lost another huge supporter of ARRL and ARES: While the passing of our friend is a local issue, I thought you might be interested in some of his life, as a Ham Radio Operator and Community supporter. We're not all, out here, loggers and cowboys :) Yesterday, we lost a teammate who, over the years, has been a strong supporter of our Amateur Radio Emergency Services. In better times, Bill McGowan, W7FQQ, offered his home so we could build J-pole antennas in a warm garage. Bill was the guiding force to making our repeater system happen. Many of the radios we use today we have because of Bill and his son in law Steve. While Bill's physical issues kept him away from meetings, he was so important to our team that we made him an Adviser for life. He enjoyed quite a life. He traveled on safari to Africa, bought lunch for General Jimmy Doolittle of World War II fame, and organized galas for artists and astronauts alike. Both Bill and his wife, Butch, were ham radio operators and while we cannot ease the pain she feels at this time, our thoughts and prayers are with her. We will miss you, Bill.
