Bob Inderbitzen attended the 3-day USA Science and Engineering Festival in DC with Harold Kramer, Brennan Price, Dave Sumner, and a couple of dedicated local ARRL volunteers. The team organized an exhibit to help represent Amateur Radio to the thousands of young people, parents and teachers who attended the free event. It was also a good opportunity to see how other organizations represent outreach to students and educators. We learned a lot! The festival was sponsored in large part by Lockheed Martin. ARRL qualified for a free booth. Bob published a photo blog throughout the event, viewed by thousands of members via the ARRL Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150717424677408.408525.200692124... Membership & Volunteer Programs Reported by Dave Patton, NN1N W1AW W1AW has been given nearly unfettered access to the Northern Ohio Digital Interconnect Group (NODIG) D-Star reflector REF038C by the NODIG group. Use of the reflector will be rather casual. However, access now allows for there to be a D-Star meeting area for W1AW should a need arise. Joe updated the web code practice files. He worked the Friday late afternoon/night shift for the vacationing Scott Gee. Joe also processed one Qualifying Run endorsement. He also created the texts for the May W1AW Qualifying Runs. He also processed both regular and W1AW/7 QSL card requests. Joe also readied a PC for use at the digital station (located near the front of the station). Field Organization/Public Service Team Radio amateurs from Indiana and Michigan successfully completed requirements to become Official Observers this past week. Headquarters received an update on interference to a Connecticut repeater from a pirate radio station. This information was forwarded to the FCC. Also, a complaint about bad language, etc, on a Mississippi repeater was received and forwarded to the Section Manager. The SM followed up on it, and seemingly, a resolution has been achieved. Chuck Skolaut conducted one morning code run at W1AW and hosted a visiting amateur while he operated. Leona Adams reports that North Dakota Section Manager Lynn Nelson, WØND, has been nominated to run for a new term of office. Petitions are due at Headquarters on June 8 for this summertime election cycle.
