Dear ODV Members: Congratulations are indeed in order for the stellar rating which the Foundation received from Charity Navigator, one of the key charity analysis websites large donors and external foundations use in making donation decisions such as grants. This is the first step of what we should all hope is an overall and comprehensive update of the listings across all major charity analysis websites for both for the Foundation and for the main ARRL entity. Because the League itself and the Foundation are two separate entities with two separate tax ID numbers, there are separate profiles for each. Below is a screenshot from the Charity Navigator website, the same nonprofit analysis website referenced showing the Foundation with a 4-star rating. The League is listed as the American Radio Relay League Inc., and has a 3-star rating. Savvy donors and grant application reviewers will likely examine both profiles and look for compatibilities and discrepancies between the two entities. Furthermore, while Charity Navigator is a leading charity analysis website, it’s not the only one. The second screenshot below is from Guidestar.org It shows Barry Shelly as the CEO. The point I am trying to make is that the League and the Foundation are both moving in the right direction, but before we begin a campaign of soliciting donations from large donors and grants from external sources, the listings for both the League itself and the Foundation need to be updated and accurate across all prominent nonprofit analysis websites. After we resolve the issue of members’ dues, the next chapter of revenue enhancement will logically be donations and grants.
