[arrl-odv:30020] Fwd: [Arrl-ariss:264] ARISS and ham radio get big attention!

ARISS note from Rosalie. ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: White, Rosalie, K1STO via Arrl-ariss <arrl-ariss@reflector.arrl.org> Date: Mon, Mar 30, 2020 at 8:39 AM Subject: [Arrl-ariss:264] ARISS and ham radio get big attention! To: arrl-ariss <arrl-ariss@reflector.arrl.org> Some of you will recall that Emily Calandrelli, KD8PKR is the host of Xploration Station's show, Xploration Outer Space. And that she also wrote *Ada Lace, Take Me to Your Leader*, a book that involves ham radio and ARISS. Astronaut Anne McClain had read the book on the ISS for Story Time in Space, and the vid is now available to watch. https://storytimefromspace.com/ For tomorrow's weekly report to NASA, I wrote about this (see paragraph in different font). You'll see Emily's Tweet (below) about it with Anne McClain floating next to the ARISS station. Anne read the book in 3 segments; segments 2 and 3 have the radio in them. The tour of the ARISS radio happened around 10 minutes into the vid segment 2 of the book reading, and there's a good. description of the radio. The final segment was read entirely with Anne in front of the radio. She answered some of the ARISS questions posed in the book, from her perspective (she didn't get licensed--she launched in Dec 2018 after her flight date was greatly sped up and she was too overloaded to study). You'll see that even Melania Trump recommended listening to the book reading. March 19: After the ISS National Lab Space Station Explorers, Story Time
From Space, and ARISS worked together in past months, the recent book *Ada Lace, Take Me to Your Leader* by Emily Calandrelli, KD8PKR, was read by Astronaut Anne McClain for Story Time From Space. Anne read the book in 3 segments. The second segment features a tour of the ARISS radio station that includes details about ham radio and ARISS. At the end of the final segment, a video was included of Astronaut Sunita Williams, KD5PLB, talking about the impact of ham radio on both the ISS astronauts and students taking part in ARISS activities. Many schools and media outlets—and even the USA’s First Lady—have recommended that parents have housebound youth listen to McClain read the book. The *Vermont Community Newspaper Group*‘s (Burlington) reporter wrote in part, “A great way to get out of the house—way out of the house—without leaving home…. In this installment Ada is trying to fix a ham radio…. It’s a nice antidote to weighty issues, enjoying readings from weightlessness.” A few posts recommending McClain’s YouTube thus far are: Los Angeles’s ABC TV7; *Daily Times* (Delaware County, PA); *The Mercury* (Berks County, PA); *The Trentonian* (NJ); *The Barnstable Patriot* (MA); and the Orange School District and Hamilton School District (NJ).
