[arrl-odv:20333] FCC agenda item for Nov 30

One result of the long delay between the opening of an FCC proceeding and the Commission's eventually taking action is that it's easy to forget what the proceeding was about. Next Wednesday the FCC will consider a Report and Order in ET Docket 09-36. The agenda item reads: The Commission will consider a Report and Order that allocates spectrum in the 413-457 MHz band and adopts service and technical rules for Medical Micropower Networks, which rely on new types of implanted medical devices that use functional electric stimulation to, among other things, restore sensation, mobility, and function to paralyzed limbs and organs. These are very low power devices, so their interference susceptibility is as much a concern as the interference they might cause which would be very localized. The proceeding dates back more than two years; see http://www.arrl.org/news/arrl-responds-to-fcc-s-proposed-allocation-for-medi... <http://mymail.arrl.org/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.arrl.org/news/arrl-responds-to-fcc-s-proposed-allocation-for-medical-devices-in-70-cm-band> It does look as if the Commission has decided against adopting our suggestion for a diffferent frequency range. Let's hope they took some of our other suggestions on board.
