      I think my experience regarding the ARRL presence at Dayton this year is
probably much the same as that of others who also were there.  Yes, I picked
up a couple of complaints about what the League is doing and has done and
likely will do, but none of them were overly spectacular.  I guess the most
heated one was an impassioned plea to begin giving good "representation" to
New Jersey by making it a self-contained Division.  (Using my best skills in
politics, I passed this one to the visible member of the EC (Mr. Isely) who,
in turn, slipped from under it and suggested Kay would be a wonderful person
to field the issue.)  Otherwise, nearly everyone was a happy as could be
over the size, content and staffing of Expo.

I commend Bob Inderbitzen and the folks who worked with him to make Expo
2006 a reality, as well as HQ management for all the direction and
cooperation given in making this year's event a success from an
interpersonal standpoint.  I hope the dollar figures come back as successful
as the people interface proved to be.  If the membership number I heard
(excess of 1000) was at all correct, we ought to have done very well
overall.

The following quote from an E-mail I received from a member sums things up
responses I've received pretty well.

". . . I did get a lot of good information from Ed, W1RFI, manning
the equipment test booth and a 'senior' ham that was manning the booth
containing the emergency radio equipment sent to disaster areas by
container.  The Youth Area was also interesting and I was impressed by the
'youthful enthusiasm' and knowledge the 'kids' shared for the hobby.
Reminded me of when I first got my Novice License at age 11. Their work and
comments was enough to sway me again to renew my membership.

"All the ARRL volunteers there were very cordial, helpful and knowledgeable.
Even with the 'chaos' that was going on at the Membership Table, the folks
were able to maintain their sanity and were very helpful answering my
questions...and zillions of others.
