[arrl-odv:26772] S. 1534 removed from today's markup

Good Morning ODV- Last night we were informed that S. 1534, the Amateur Radio Parity Act, has been moved off of today’s markup calendar by the Senate Commerce Committee Chairman’s staff. We agree with that decision. The explanation for this is simply this; in the last 36 hours, Senator Nelson gave notice that he would offer an amendment to the Bill that would completely gut it. Apparently his last minute proposal, which focuses on the type of antenna and removes ALL of the Section 3 guarantees, has confused much of the Committee. As his amendments are antithetical to our needs and with no time left to clear up the confusion, it was determined by Senate leadership that it would be better not to vote on the Bill today. I will continue to keep you informed of the progress of the Bill. 73 de Mike - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mike Lisenco, N2YBB Director, Hudson Division Chairman, ad hoc Legislative Advocacy Committee ARRL - The national association for Amateur Radio™ 917-865-3538 n2ybb@arrl.org
