[arrl-odv:34765] NTIA National Spectrum Strategy

ODV, Several weeks ago, on behalf of the ARRL, I appeared before the Executive Branch panel that will propose a National Spectrum Strategy (NSS) to introduce them to Amateur Radio and our spectrum uses and needs. On the panel were representatives of the U.S. Department of Commerce / National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). The stated purpose of the NSS effort is to provide guidelines for future spectrum re-allocations, particularly when federal (NTIA) and non-federal (FCC) interests collide. One of the immediate concerns is the 3 GHz band, which is also the focus of Congressional and Executive Branch policymakers, but with a broader focus to set down principles for future use as well to govern such conflicts. Following up on the initial NSS session, earlier this week on behalf of the ARRL I filed written comments. A copy of that submission is attached for your information. Please direct any questions to me. 73, Dave K3ZJ David R. Siddall Managing Partner DS Law, PLLC 1629 K St. NW, Ste 300 Washington, DC 20006 direct: +1 202 559 4690 Unauthorized Disclosure Prohibited. Thanks David: I was invited to speak at ARRL night last Thursday for one of the largest VHF contest clubs on the east coast, Mt Airy VHF Radio Club (aka the “Packrats”). Coincidently they were in the middle of a large group buy from Down East Microwave for 3 GHz transverters, being on sale. They were interested in what their League was doing about the issue you discuss. They have virtually 100% membership in ARRL. All together their members appear to have purchased dozens and were awaiting delivery. They have kept the faith it seems that we can share a sliver up there and they are walking that walk. This was a timely meeting. Hi David, Has there been any discussion of guard bands around amateur (or any other) UHF/microwave allocations?
