The National Citizen Corps office has posted its July newsletter on their Web page. Back issues of the Citizen Corps Newsletter may also be found at http://www.citizencorps.gov/news/enews/ ARRL HQ is continuing our series of teleconferences with Section Managers around the country - a Division or two at a time. To help keep everyone in the loop, you're invited to read the summary highlights of the latest teleconference. Summary of Highlights from the June, 2007, Teleconference with Section Managers On Wednesday evening, June 27, Steve Ewald, WV1X, hosted an ARRL telebridge teleconference with Section Managers of the Great Lakes and Hudson Divisions. SMs that we able to make the conference call were Dale Williams, WA8EFK (Michigan); Jim Brooks, KY4Z (Kentucky); and Tom Carrubba, KA2D (New York City-Long Island). HQ staff members Chuck Skolaut, K0BOG, and Steve, WV1X, were also on the call. The Section Managers noted that they often hear from affiliated clubs who wonder about the benefits from ARRL that are available to them as affiliated and Special Service clubs. Even though the information is clearly described on the ARRL Web pages and through the fairly new ARRL Club Newsletter (a monthly electronic newsletter) and through Section News e-letters and Section Web pages, many clubs are still "in the dark" on the benefits. Perhaps one reason this is happening is because the ARRL information may be going to a former club officer who doesn't pass along the information to current officers. Or, maybe information about ARRL events and programs is somehow lost on some clubs during the transition between incoming and outgoing club officers. Encouraging clubs to keep their annual club reports up to date at ARRL is key to improving this communication, but it remains an on-going challenge for the Section Leaders. How to improve communications with club leaders and how one may use the tools on the ARRL Web page effectively to assist this effort were discussed. Both Michigan and New York City-Long Island offer annual Section wide gatherings above and beyond hamfests and convention. Michigan enjoys a July weekend at a camp and New York City-Long Island hosts "Ham Radio University" in January. These activities provide a chance to learn and grow as a team and a Section. A few stories were shared about last week's Field Day activities and the strategy each SM uses to visit various Field Day camps around their sections. Conference participants discussed the current status on relationships with served agencies, such as the Red Cross, and how credentialing and background check issues are being addressed in their respective sections. Best wishes to all as we prepare for the upcoming weekend and as the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day next week. 73, Steve Ewald, WV1X Supervisor, Field Organization Team ARRL - The national association for Amateur Radio 860-594-0265 sewald@arrl.org
