[ARRL-ODV:10490] Re: Problem Resolved

Joel: They will be. For the record, none of the staff had access to any of the messages on ODV or any other list they're not properly eligible to see. I also had them check the other lists as a precaution and all are intact. And Joel, I was probably unhappier about this than you were. The people that I'm responsible for already know that and that's one of the reasons they now have new procedures to follow. This is totally unacceptable. If we can misconfigure our "internal" remailer from a staffer's computer I want that corrected immediately. In fact, if staffers have the ability to access our OD, ODV, or standing committee lists, from their desk top computers, that has to be corrected immediately. At the surface, this appears to be the case. Just exactly what does staff have access to, what have they seen, and when did they see it ( no historical pun intended...am I perfectly clear?). I don't want to make your heart get out of gear again, Barry, but this does not make me very happy.....or feel things can be discussed here among the board with any confidence of security. Fortunately, the problem was brought to our attention almost immediately. Only two messages, [ODV:10484 and ODV:10485] were sent to a handful of incorrect addresses. The problem arose when, in installing a new computer for a staffer, the new machine was mis-configured as it related to authorizations for the software that is used to administer our e-mail lists. The staffer didn't notice that the names added today were being added to the wrong list. As a result, we will be implementing new procedures in ISD. I apologize for the error. 73, Barry, N1VXY
