[arrl-odv:15603] FW: MetLife opt-out response

Met Life Info Harold _____________________________________________ From: Inderbitzen, Bob, NQ1R Sent: Thursday, May 24, 2007 11:45 AM To: Kramer, Harold, WJ1B Cc: Breen,Katie, W1KRB Subject: MetLife opt-out response Harold, Please share this information with ODV: ARRL has partnered with MetLife for a new group insurance program. ARRL members can now seek discounted rates for home and auto insurance. The program also includes products and services offered by MetLife Bank (CDs, Money Market Account, etc.). Katie Breen has led this effort-and will serve as the program contact person. More information can be found in an ARRL web news brief at http://www.arrl.org/?artid=7477. The MetLife program was launched at our exhibit in Dayton-the timing of which followed months of negotiation and planning. To help support the launch, MetLife canvassed a large number of members with a mailing helping introduce the new membership benefit. It was mailed to domestic members that have not opted-out from ARRL's commercial mailing list. A small number of members do not support ARRL's participation in affinity programs and/or commercial mailings. We expect many more members, however, have enjoyed learning about the new benefit-or will choose to simply ignore the direct mail 'noise.' Just as we have experienced with the ARRL Visa Card and ARRL Equipment Insurance Program, we've received a handful of complaints from members following the MetLife mailing. I expect we'll receive a few more. Katie is prepared to help acknowledge and respond to these complaints-offering members an opportunity to opt-out from future commercial mailings. I am sharing a sample response, below, which may be helpful as you interact with members. Please contact me if you have any questions. 73, Bob, NQ1R Dear ####: Your letter to President Harrison has been shared with me. I apologize for what seems to be junk mail from MetLife. The announcement letter included details of a group insurance program from MetLife, with whom ARRL has partnered to offer this new membership benefit. We provided them the name and address of members that had not opted-out from receiving commercial mailings. We respect your choices. ARRL members may opt out of commercial mailings at anytime. ARRL membership applications and renewal applications include a check box for members to choose to opt-out of non-ARRL related mailings. Members and Life Members can also make this selection anytime by contacting ARRL. Your ARRL membership record has been coded to ensure that your name and address will not be included in any future commercial mailing list. Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for the change to take effect, allowing for any direct mail already in process. These changes will not affect your monthly delivery of QST and any of the email lists you are subscribed to. To review or make changes to your email preferences, please visit the Member Data Page at http://www.arrl.org/members-only/memdata.html. You must be logged in to access this page. Or, telephone me at 1-888-277-5289, Mon-Fri from 9 AM to 5 PM, and I can help review or modify these preferences with you. Again, please accept my apology. Contact me anytime. I'm happy to help. Sincerely and 73, Katie Katie Breen, W1KRB Membership Manager ARRL - the national association for Amateur Radio 225 Main Street Newington CT 06111 860.594.0297 direct
